Boss GE-7 Graphic Equalizer

Seven-band ±15 dB graphic EQ — the surgical mid-cut every metal player owns.

Schematic pending verification

We don't ship reference schematics until they've been hand-authored against authoritative sources (manufacturer service docs, ElectroSmash analyses, GEOFEX writeups) and reviewed in the simulator. Until then, the BOM, signal chain, controls and mod notes below are accurate, and you can still add this pedal to a project — it just won't include a circuit yet.

About

Seven gyrator-based parametric peaking filters centered at 100, 200, 400, 800, 1.6k, 3.2k, and 6.4 kHz, each cut/boost via a slide pot. A single op-amp acts as the summing amplifier; each band uses a single op-amp + RC network (gyrator) to simulate an inductor for the resonant peak. A separate Level slider sets overall output.

Quick facts

  • Iconic for the 'mid-boost' setting that puts an SD-1-style mid hump in front of any amp.
  • The 'Analogman GE-7 mod' (replacing the JRC4565 op-amp with TL074 and improving the power decoupling) is one of the most popular pedal mods ever.
  • Production has run continuously since 1981 — over 40 years on the market.

Mod recipes Pro

3 mods
  • Analogman mod

    Lower noise floor, smoother boost.

How: Replace JRC4565 with TL074 (pin-compatible). Replace power-rail decoupling cap with 100 µF film+ceramic in parallel. Optionally bypass coupling caps with 0.1 µF film.

  • Master volume tame

Stop the Level slider clipping the output at +15 dB cut/boost combinations.

How: Add a series 4.7k resistor between the Level slider wiper and output buffer; prevents the summing node from saturating at extreme settings.

  • True bypass

Eliminate FET bypass loading on bypassed signal.

How: Replace the stock FET bypass with a 3PDT footswitch.
